Customising existing chairs
Here i have begun to experiment with the placement of the chair i previously customised, experimenting with its presentation in order to maximise the abstraction from the original chair form. I think the chair becomes much more interesting when taken away from the floor.

Continuing to draw and document chairs.
These photos show my continuing experiments with chairs, drawing and spray painting around and through them. Making 3d wooden forms based on chairs and taking them around to different sites to investigate how they intrude within different spaces. I am also experimenting by making drawings using these sculptures, drawing around them.

Continuing to work
Tuesday, 13 November 2007
I have been continuing my investigations into taking one every day object, in this case the chair and making it interesting and unusual. Abstracting its form and looking at it in new ways. I have started to make drawings by drawing round chairs and through chairs and using spray paint, spraying around the chairs form. The drawings are turning out really interestingly so i am trying to make as many as i can in order to experiment with this idea fully. I am also using the sculptures i made based on chair forms as templates in a similar way, ie drawing and spraying round them.
Simultaneoulsy i am thinking about continuing to customise existing chairs and spend time walking around glasgow trying to find disgarded chairs i can use. I have also started to investigate by taking my chair forms i made out of wood into different environments around the art school and surrounding streets, investigating how the forms intrude within space.

Tony Cragg's website and work

another artist i am interested in is Tony Cragg, again for the way he uses everyday objects. I am looking at the process of looking at everyday objects, using the ready made to make work and then developing the work by making sculptures that reflect the idea of the object and the ready made but are constructed by the artist.
